Layer One X | 2025 AI + Web3 Hackathon participant
Project Name
Soul Certify
Purpose/Intent:
Soul Certify is a blockchain-based solution for issuing and verifying academic credentials, such as university degrees and certificates. The project aims to combat the widespread issue of fake degrees and credential fraud by leveraging Soulbound Tokens (SBTs)—non-transferable NFTs that permanently associate a credential with its rightful owner.
Key issues addressed:
- Ensuring the authenticity of academic certificates to prevent fraud in job applications.
- Reducing administrative inefficiencies in universities and credential verification processes.
- Providing a tamper-proof and decentralized storage method for certificates.
- Potential expansion into sectors like healthcare and insurance for secure document storage.
The system allows universities to mint certificates as SBTs on the blockchain, ensuring verifiability while preventing tampering. It also integrates Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs) to protect personal information, allowing limited data disclosure when needed.
Why Layer One X Blockchain?
- Interoperability: Ability to issue and verify certificates across multiple blockchains (e.g., mint on Solana, verify on Ethereum).
- Gas Optimization: Lower transaction costs compared to other Layer 1 and Layer 2 solutions.
- Built-in Hooks: Provides seamless integration for smart contract deployment and execution.
- Decentralization & Security: Ensures data integrity and prevents manipulation of certificates.
Team Members:
- Moas: Second-year Computer Science student at the University of Southampton, UK. Specializes in smart contract development on EVM chains.
- Karan: Pursuing a BTech in Computer Science in India. Specializes in AI/ML and has experience in chatbot development and code automation.
Additional Notes:
- The project is currently in its early development phase and is participating in the 2025 L1X Hackathon to gain community feedback and validate its adoption potential.
- The team plans to expand the use case beyond universities into insurance and healthcare sectors for secure and verifiable document storage.
- Future improvements may include cross-chain compatibility and further privacy enhancements using ZKPs.
